I wanted to share some recent field studies in watercolor and gouache. The large rock formation is just outside of the Golden Gate bridge area. The cliffs had so many variations of color in the light brown palette - interesting to dive into that. All of these pieces were painted in one session from life. Extreme wind by the ocean, and a lovely bee sting at the end of the oak tree study are all part of the fun when you are outside, but I would not trade it for anything.

They look so different when viewed on your blog as opposed to when viewed blown up. Almost like two seperate images. Like a well practiced magic trick, I don't think they translate as well when see really close. Great work!!

I regualrly follow your blog, and always look at your peices before going out to try and do my own plein air studies in watercolors but mate, these are so beautiful they hurt my heart. Seriously, I felt a twitch in the side of my chest when i saw them.

Ahhh, real paint:) Refreshing in this world of digital art. I'm jealous. The last time I picked up a paintbrush was months ago when I did face painting at my daughter's school picnic.

Wonderful work in your blog!!! Of course I'm familiar with your Star Wars work...been a fan for a long time...but it's so nice to see your "other" work. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you so much for this update. You sir is a a nowday master at plain air painting. Marvolous to see. I can almost feel how timeless it must have felt to sit there and paint. Wish we had weather like that here i sweden. Only minus degrees and blowing wind.
