I have just begun my venture into gouache and admire your work. I start a figue drawing class next week and am looking forward to trying gouache in that venture as well. What type of paper did you use here? Is pastel paper too thin for gouache?

one of my favorite things to do at a drawing session is to bust out the gouache. Nice to see yours.

Thanks for the feedback, sketching from life in gouache is rewarding in that you can capture complex value ranges very fast with the help of toned paper/board. In this case I used a dark blue Canson paper. If you want to try pastels over a gouache underpainting, I would suggest using a pastel ground and pre tint it with a favorite - neutral color. This provides tooth. You can make big batches of various grounds and paint over the paper using a thin ground mixture. Hope this helps a bit Marta. - Erik

Wonderful figures. I like your use of blue toned paper as the middle ground. It creates some nice effects in the shadows. Awesome!
