Gouache Workshop - SF - October 20-21, 2012

Working with watercolor and gouache can be an interesting start to a digital painting as well. Just the beginning abstraction, suggests shapes and details that can be refined further, in this case using Painter 12 software. In my upcoming workshop I will go over some (about 2 hours) approaches you can try out using very rough starts and seeing options on the computer. There are still some spots left, please sign up soon!!

Hi, I wish to be there for the workshop but I'm too far and too difficult to come for me.
Do you plan to make some video of the course?

Hi Alessandro,

Thanks for your interest in my upcoming workshop! I do have a DVD from Gnomon Workshop that goes over a lot of similar principals from my class. I've also had others from Europe suggest a workshop there since you may be so far away. This would be fantastic and a long term goal of mine.

I think that is a good idea to capture some of the teaching demos from my workshops and make them available online in the future.

Hi Erik,

I've been following your blog for many years and I must say you are my favorite artist when it comes to environments.

I mostly paint in oils but I do love the look of Gouache, but I get so frustrated every time I give them a try. Mostly because of the color shift from wet to dry. For instance, sometimes when I want to lighten an element in my painting, it turns out that I did not lighten it at all once the paint is dry. I may actually have made it even darker.. This problem I mostly have in the in the lighter value range.
I guess I have just given up before I got the feel for it..

Btw, I live in Europe too, so your workshops are to far away for me too.

Hi Erik,
I bought your DVD about gouache painting last year and found it very interesting.
Though it would be a good way to upgrade it with new contents.

All the best
Alessandro

I vote for a workshop in Europe. And if you make it in Paris, I buy you a beer :)

Sounds good Thomas! I look forward to teaching in Paris in the near future. Impossible not to be inspired there.

-Alessandro, I've been getting more request for new DVD material... stay tuned!

Thank you Ben and A.Riabovitchev for the feedback.
