After seeing numerous watercolors at the Yale Center for British Art's archives I was inspired to experiment on my break back on the East Coast. Girtin, Turner, R.P. Bonington, Cozens, Gainsborough among others was outstanding to see up close.

Sketch from imagination on prepared Arches MBM Ingres (Michallet) paper with gray wash, gouache, w/c and pen&ink. 5x6 inches.

Really lovely.
What kind of pen&ink do you use.

Hi John,

I am using a simple non water proof brown ink made by Higgins. The dip pen is a high quality Japanese steel nib point.

Wow! As usual... Always impressive to see how modernity and classicism play together in your work. How you manage to play transparent watercolor in the shadows and opaque gouache in the lights - and how you succeed to maintain such a subtle balance between the two. And the art of the brush and the art of the color and the power of visual imagination and so on...
I'm very very glad to see that one of my important source of emotion and inspiration is back on the Net! Hope to see more and more - and maybe an exhibition in France in the future?
